Labor Day 2016 Events Things to Do Grand Junction Rifle CO

While the dog days of summer bring plenty of sun and fun, we have a bit of bad news: Summer will soon be coming to an end.  But we’ll make up for it with some local events in the Grand Junction and Rifle CO area that are sure to lift your spirits as summer starts making room for fall.

What to Do for Labor Day in Grand Junction

We have prepared a “fiver” of local events for Labor Day, everything from drag racing to a horse show.

Bill Engvall

  • When: Aug. 28, 4 p.m. matinee and 7 p.m. evening show.
  • Where: Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St., Grand Junction.
  • Why: We’re cheating a bit on this one, as the popular standup comic performs a few days before Labor Day weekend, but his easygoing charm and funny repertoire more than make up for our minor indiscretion.  Tickets are $44 to $54.

Drag Racing

  • When: Sep. 2 and 3.
  • Where: Western Colorado Dragway, 115 32 Road, Grand Junction.
  • Why: Friday night is for street legal drag racing, while Saturday is a points #9 and Wally event.

Food Truck Friday

  • When: Sep. 2, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Grand Junction, 4th Street and Grand Avenue.
  • Why: If you like interesting food and live music, then this is right up your alley.

Grand Valley Dressage Horse Show

  • When: Sep. 2 to 4.
  • Where: Mesa County Fairgrounds Covered Area, 2785 U.S. Highway 50, Grand Junction.
  • Why: Come see some horses and their riders compete in various size classes; admission is free.

Spur of the Moment 5K

  • When: Sep. 3, starts at 8:30 a.m.
  • Where: Jr. Legion Park, Grand Junction.
  • Why: This event is sponsored by the Mesa Monument Striders Running Club, an all-ages group that promotes fun-yet-active social running events.
