Summer is the best time of the year. The pleasant temperatures mean there is a lot more time for adventures. Most people would agree that the summer is hard to beat, the other seasons just can’t offer the same amount of fun.
Unfortunately, the summer is going to come to an end eventually. As much as we don’t like to think about it, winter is right around the corner. It’s easier to prepare for it now, rather than waiting for it to come and adjusting after the fact. One of the biggest things to think about in the winter is your oil. Those frigid temperatures can have a serious effect on your oil, so what oil should you use?
Winterizing your vehicle is always a good idea, it helps protect and maintain your car for as long as possible. Oil is rated by its viscosity, but that viscosity is affected by the temperature. This is what makes it important to be careful which oil you use. If your oil isn’t good in cold weather, then it might thicken up and have a hard time circulating your engine.
Of course, you don’t want to overcorrect and switch to an oil that is too thin. Some modern engine oils have additives that help them adjust to the temperatures, but it never hurts to be careful. You can always check your owner’s manual to see what the recommended oil is for your car. Double-checking that you have the proper oil can save you a lot of trouble when winter hits.
