It is hard to understate the importance of the engine. Cars won’t get very far if you don’t have an engine under the hood. You want a good and efficient engine, but there can be so many different ones to choose from.
Most people are aware of how important the engine is. The discerning car buyer might be very particular about the engine they choose. Different engines offer different benefits for their drivers. One of the biggest differences you can find between engines is how they are designed. Most engines are configured with their pistons in a line or in a V-shape. What is the difference between them?
The main difference between the two engines is probably self-explanatory. Inline engines have their pistons set up in a straight line. This makes the engines a bit longer, but there is considerably less vibration from an inline engine. These engines are also a little easier to build for manufacturers, so they will be more affordable. Larger inline engines can make the car’s hood a bit longer to accommodate for the extra size.
If it wasn’t obvious, a V-shaped engine has its pistons designed in a V-shape formation. This design has a lot of different benefits. It allows the engine to generate more power because of the position of the pistons. The uneven number of pistons on each side does cause some vibration throughout the car. A V-shaped engine can generate more power and torque at lower speeds, though. These engines are also a bit more compact because they don’t have to stretch as much.
