Because there are so many wide open and winding back roads in the Grand Junction area, it’s not uncommon to see drivers using their bright headlights when going out at night. It seems commonplace, but it got us wondering; is this legal when there are other cars on the road? When is it safe to have your high beams on? We’ve compiled some headlight laws for driving in Colorado so you can be prepared when the situation arises for you at night!
Driving with your high beams on is, for most intents and purposes, allowed to help you see more clearly on roads that don’t have light shining directly on them. Especially in wooded areas, your high beams are also beneficial to help you better see crossing animals like deer and moose. However, there are times in which you should be sure to turn them off.
If you’re on a two-lane road, for instance, and you see another vehicle coming towards you in the opposite direction, you’re required to turn your high beams off at least 500 feet before you two pass each other. This is because high beams can be distracting to drivers and could lead to a collision down the road. It’s unlikely, but still possible. You should also aim to turn your brights off if you’re following a fellow driver within 200 feet, largely for the same reasons.

Beautiful post and recipe. I make my version of poutine here in Spain but now that I see your, I must make improvements. It’s also difficult to find cheese curds here too. I try to find substitutes. I accept suggestions for Europe. Great blog an great pictures. Thanks.
