Millions of Americans across the country will be honoring veterans this upcoming weekend for Veterans Day 2016 on Friday, November 11. Colorado State Parks
Free Admission – Friday, November 11
All military men and women are offered free admission to all of Colorado’s state parks this Veterans Day. Veterans, active duty military personnel and their families must show one of the following in order to get in for free: a valid active, reserve or retired military identification card, an identification card from the Veterans’ Administration, Veterans of Foreign Wars or the American Legion, discharge papers or a DD214. Be sure to have this ID ready at the park gate. All passengers will get in free as well, so the whole family is welcome to join. To be clear, this is only for free admission into the parks. All other fees, rules and regulations still apply.
Veterans Day Art & Music Extravaganza

Join together and help commemorate veterans at the Avalon Theatre on Friday, November 11 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is free to the public, and everyone is encouraged to join. There will be a variety of live performances throughout the day including one from an ‘America’s Got Talent’ finalist. There’s a live auction at 6:30 p.m. as well as a silent auction and a raffle. Local veterans will be present to share their stories, and there will be an art show filled with work from local artists. You won’t want to miss this great opportunity.
Veterans Day Parade
Saturday, November 12 in Grand Junction
Get the family together and head downtown on Main Street from 8th to 3rd Street on Saturday, November 12 for the annual Veterans Day Parade in Grand Junction. It’s sponsored by the Veterans Committee of the Western Slope, and it is free to everyone who wants to attend. The parade starts at 2 p.m., but you’ll want to head there early to get a good spot!
Other local events include a ceremony at the Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial in Fruita on Friday, November 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. Those who served will be honored with their names etched onto the memorial wall. There’s also a donation-based yoga class that is free to veterans as part of the Veterans Gratitude Week.
