What Speed Saves the Most Fuel?

Some people might think that going faster will get you better savings. Driving faster will cut down on the travel time which should mean you use less fuel, right? Well, it’s not quite as simple as that. Faster speeds require more fuel to get up to that speed which doesn’t exactly save money. So, it would stand to reason that going slower is the more efficient choice.

Of course, it isn’t really that simple. Driving slower doesn’t save you that much money in the long run. Most cars are actually at their most efficient around 60 miles per hour. Cars are engineered to operate best around that speed, so going the speed limit is almost always the best option. Any slower or faster than that will cause your engine to work harder than it needs to.
